October 28: Potluck & Candlelight Vigil for Marissa Alexander

The African-American Cultural Center at UIC has worked closely with Project NIA on many projects. Please come and support this community organization as well as this Candlelight Vigial for Marissa Alexander who has suffered because of a broken judicial system. Please join Marissa’s supporters on Monday October 28 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Jane Addams Hull House (Dining Hall) 800 S. Halsted St for a potluck and candlelight vigil. Bring food and a poem about domestic violence, resilience, and/or hope to share.

On the morning of Thursday, October 31 (8:30 am), a hearing will take place where the state of Florida will either drop Marissa Alexander’s case or set dates for moving ahead with a new trial.

Join Marissa’s supporters on Monday October 28 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Jane Addams Hull House (Dining Hall) 800 S. Halsted St for a potluck and candlelight vigil. Bring food and a poem about domestic violence, resilience, and/or hope to share.

In the meantime, Free Marissa NOW is asking supporters to contact Prosecutor Angela Corey demanding that she drop the case against Marissa. In order for the messages to Angela Corey to have an impact, please get letters in the U.S. mail by Saturday, October 26. Calls, emails and faxes can continue until October 28.
